Syria
Syria comes as a very pleasant surprise to most visitors.
If you arrive in Damascus, you will enjoy exploring the delightful old town with its colourful souk. The ornate 8th century mosque features golden mosaics and extensive use of marble. The café scene is characterful and the restaurants cater for all tastes.
Palmyra is probably one of the reasons you’d like to visit Syria, but you will still be amazed by the size and excellent condition of this ancient site with its theatre, monumental arch, and temples. Overlooking it all is the Arab Castle with spectacular sunset views of the ruins.
You may not know what to expect from Aleppo, but you’ll love its old town with its labyrinth of souks and great restaurants. Overlooking it all is the impenetrable Citadel with its moat and 12th century gate.
